Chile Ristras are strings of chile hung on fences and patios and posts throughout New Mexico. According to tradition, Chile Ristras bring good health and good luck. Regardless of personal beliefs, the dried peppers are useful for cooking or eating. These Chile Ristras were photographed in Santa Fe, NM. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, snow is not unusual in Santa Fe. The frozen precipitation makes an intriguing visual for chile peppers. Unfortunately, the day I photographed these deep red Ristras, the snow was still falling in Santa Fe.
