Whether a winter landscape appears muted or somber is determined by the beholder. To me, Wildwood Preserve Metropark had a pleasant rustic feel on this overcast January afternoon. The feeling likely arose from this silhouetted oak tree, standing at the far end of a meadow. I suspect that, during the spring and summer, the oak is camouflaged by nearby trees and vines. It would be interesting to see whether this tree is more striking in fall or winter.
